BLACK ARCHITECTS IN THE MAKING

Architecture is the art of designing and constructing the world around us. Now more than ever, the profession can benefit from a new set of diverse minds and creativity. Less than 2% of architects in the United States identify as Black, BAM was established to enhance students’ awareness about architecture in hopes of increasing that percentage. Founded in 2016 BAM has worked to inspire, encourage, and most importantly impact the lives of hundreds of students in greater Southern and Central Florida. We have seen the influence people of color have had on other professional industries. This begs the question:

How far could architecture advance with more diversity?

MAKING

A

DIFFERENCE!

BAM was founded by Craig Aquart, an architect, who is a principal of MCHarry & Associates in Miami Florida.

Craig believes the architecture profession has room to improve and grow by becoming more inclusive. With the help of other passionate architects, he aims to expand the BAM program from Florida to nationwide in order to reach more students of color and spread what he calls the

“gospel of architecture”.
